Meditation - The Importance of Meditation School
Meditation has become a very popular means of bringing about inner peace and happiness. With a growing reputation across the world, many people now understand and recognize the multitude of benefits that meditation offers and are eager on learning and practicing it.
However one should understand that meditation is a strict discipline of the mind that requires a life long commitment. Learning the art of meditation is not easy and cannot be mastered overnight. It takes constant practice and discipline, but most importantly it takes the guidance of an expert teacher or guru to teach the ways and methods of practicing it.
The number of meditation schools has increased exponentially over the years to meet the growing demands of people looking to find inner peace and happiness. Meditation schools differ because of the different practices or teachings that they follow or a based on. Some follow the Buddhist way of meditation while others follow the Zen way of meditation and yet others that follow the numerous other disciplines available in meditation.
Given below are the names of few of these schools and an explanation of the technique they follow.
School of Meditation This meditation school teaches a technique that is simple and involves no attention to physical postures, chanting or complex mental procedures. Its simplicity makes it easy to follow for almost anyone.
The core of their technique is Mantra, a sound that you repeat silently to yourself; this facilitates a harmonious union of the body, mind and spirit. The method is practiced twice a day and can be done while sitting in a chair in a quiet place.
The School is run by the very people who are its members. It is a non-profit institution registered under the name of The Society for Spiritual Development. The school is based in London with franchises in Barn staple, Basingstoke, Boston, Bournemount, Chelmsford, Leeds, Salisbury, Sheffield, Stroud and Winchester. Their international centers are located in Holland, Amsterdam, Paris and Greece.
Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School The Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School is the name of a group of teachers, who run several independent schools in Scandinavia and Germany. The School is free from any commercial, political or religious interest. The Danish yogi Swami Janakananda founded the Scandinavian Yoga and Meditation School in Copenhagen in 1970 as a non-profit organization. A very important element in the school is the deep-going yoga teacher education, which begins with the 3-Month Course at Håå Course Center in southern Sweden, and continues as a process, to give you a solid personal experience of yoga and meditation.
Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment This meditation school is based on the teachings of Ramtha, an ancient warrior, conqueror who lived 35,000 years ago. Remnants of his life and teachings exist in various archaeological artifacts found in India and Egypt, as well as in ancient Hindu literature.
The four cornerstones of Ramtha’s teachings are: The statement “You are God”; the directive to make known the unknown; the concept that consciousness and energy create the nature of reality; the challenge to conquer yourself. Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment has students from all over the world and all walks of life. Age is no bar to learning this form of meditation. In fact some of its students range from the ages of six to those well into the twilight of their life.
These are just some of the meditation schools that a person interested in learning deep meditation can choose from. Most meditation practices are similar in their goals and benefits; the focus should be on choosing a style of meditation that suits you the best.
