Quit Smoking Tips - My Story

It’s time to quit. Let’s face it, smoking is no longer the norm in society. It seems most restaurants and bars have banned smoking in their facilities. If you live in California you can not smoke any where except the privacy of your own home. I know first hand that even the prospect of quitting produces a feeling of panic in most smokers mind. It is probably true that if you are reading this you did not just recently picked up smoking; you have been doing it years or decades. You really don’t see the reasons to quit until they are starring you in the face. Unfortunately for a lot of people, the will to quit doesn’t come in until we are faced with our own mortality.

You hear all of the reasons to quit all the time. Smoking kills plain and simple. Heart Diseases, the risk of Heart attack and numerous Cancer’s to say the least. You think the simple statement that Smoking Kills would be enough to scare most people straight into quitting, but it doesn’t. Smoking isn’t just simply a habit that we pick up one day and put down the next. Smoking is an addiction, and one of the worst around. Within a few weeks of smoking it grabs hold of you and it doesn’t let go. So why it is that thinking of the fact that smoking kills, doesn’t scare us enough to quit? For one, we naturally fell like that just couldn’t happen to me. The fact is it could and eventually will.

Here is my story; I married a non-smoker, so of course he hated it. I promised him numerous times that I would quit, and I did, maybe for a week maybe for a few months, but something would always happen and I would go right back to where I started. I started having breathing problems, nothing to severe, I was just always winded, a flight of stares, playing with my kids in the backyard, I could not do it for long. I got bronchitis and my x-rays were so black the doctor really couldn’t even see my lungs. I couldn’t believe it was that bad, I smoked low tar cigarettes (mistakenly believing that those were better). I went home that day with my bag full of medicine, and looked at my young children and new that they deserved a mother that would be there for a long time to come. That was my motivator, and if you are going to be successful each person that wants to quit needs to find their motivator, with out it, you are sure to fail.

Create a Quit Plan

-Pick a date, and plan for it.

-Make a list of why you want to quit (your motivators)

-Keep a record of where and when you smoke and how you feel.

-On that date throw away all nicotine, ashtrays, lighters and anything that you would associate with smoking.

-Tell friends and family your quit date, so they can motivate you, don’t try and go it alone.

-Stop on the date you picked, if not, you will just keep putting it off.

The initial withdrawal pains will only last a few days, but breaking the habit of smoking will take much longer to conquer. If it takes using stop smoking aids, gum, patches, prescription medication or hypnosis, do it. Whatever it takes quit. You will be amazes on how you feel when you’re done. If you won’t due it for yourself, do it for the one’s who love you!

    Hey Buddy..thats good….smoking is going to ban in public places ..its good for other who were suffering from smokers who smoke in public places..what & whichever way the smoking is going to ban.I have one more site which is about quit smoking.

    I did not intend to quit smoking, but something made me quit. I realized that I had Adult ADD, went to the doctor and got on Adderal. I found that I no longer had the desire to smoke. One of the side effects of ADD is forming habits and almost being OCD about them. This can be drinking, cleaning excessively, etc. Whatever it is, people with ADD go overboard on what their habit is. Well I did not realize this or put two and two togeter but I did notice that I no longer needed the cigarate. The medicine changed my life. Not only do not I not smoke, I don’t drink and I am thriving in every area of my life. My point here is that if you are a smoker, you may want to take an online survey to see if you have ADD.

    May I suggest this company called Crown7…They make a product that beats the bans. I ordered mine and can smoke it anywhere. People just trip when they see me smoking in the bar.
